Asaram was born on 17 April 1941, at the Berani village of The Nawabshah District at British India (Present day Berani Town is located in Sanghar district Sindh Pakistan), to Menhgiba along with Thaumal Sirumalani, in the bania caste. His birth name was Asumal Thaumal Harpalani or even Asumal Sirumalani.
Asumal has always been extremely inclined towards religion and spirituality which began when he was only 15 year old. He was eventually married to Laxmi Devi. In one such affair, Lilashah, a local religio-spiritual figure, had supposedly devoted him as her disciple within an ashram in Gandhidham and termed him Asaram on 7 October 1964.
Asaram and Laxmi Devi had two children, son Narayan Sai and daughter Bharati Devi. He always remained a householder and never became an ordained monk. Their son Narayan Sai works with Asaram.
Narayan Sai
Narayan Sai (born 29 January 1972), also known as Narayan Prem Sai is the son of Asaram. He and his father are serving life imprisonment for rape along with various other crimes. He was also fined Rs. 5 lakh.
The Gujarat Police estimate that Narayan Prem Sai has investments and properties worth approximately Rs. 5,000 crore. Narayan Sai married Jankidevi.They were married for a decade up until April 2016.
Bharati Devi
Bhartishree – the only daughter of Asaram Bapu has recently taken over the control of the Rs 10,000 crore empire. Bhartishree was detained by authorities in 2013 for her role in the rape case of two Surat-based sisters. However she had been released on bail.
The 43-year-old is lovingly called Bharti Devi by her own fans and has been running Asaram Bapu’s Trust since 2013, the season he was detained in connection with all the Jodhpur rape case. The Ahmedabad-based Sant Shri Asaramji Trust is registered as a charitable body. She manages most of the ashrams of her father.
