Parents & Early Life

Zoya Khan was the daughter of Pashtun Pashtun parents in New Delhi, India. Her father is an advocate. She graduated with honors in accounting from Delhi University. She was also involved in drama. She was an inter-school badminton and basketball player in her school and college years. As a hobby, she is a painter. Her brother is a Supreme Court lawyer. She is the niece of Haroon Yusuf, Ex-Minister of Cabinet and Working President of Delhi Congress.

After a brief stint as a model, Zoya broke through with “Machhar-Daani”, a short film for which she won the best actress award. It was one of 216 films that were screened at the Kolkata International Short Film Festival 2013. Zoya’s acting debut was in South Indian cinema in 2015 with a Telugu feature film, A Shyam Gopal Varma Movie, which she played the lead role in, directed by C.S.Reddy. Ramesh Sippy also directed her role in Shimla Mirchi.

Since her school days, Zoya has been planning and hosting events since then. She was an emcee and presented many shows and live events, including comedy shows, Asian Open Kickboxing championships, musical concerts and entertainment shows. Her endorsements included commercials in print media for brands like Airtel, Fortis Healthcare and Bank of India. As she began acting and getting events, she moved to Mumbai.

Zoya Khan’s debut on the small screen was during her studies. She appeared in an Ekta Kanoor TV serial called Bairi Piya, with Balaji Telefilms. Her role was a negative one, aired on Colors TV. In a Zee TV series Satrangi Sasural (International Title 7 Bridges to Cross), she played the role of Dr. Devika in the parallel lead. This completes her love triangle. Zoya played the role of a bubbly, fashionable character in a Reliance Broadcast Network show Love Dosti Dua. This was the 2nd season of Jai Maa Vindhyavasini, BIG Magic channel. She was set against the backdrop showbiz, glamour, and glitz. In a Tellychakkar interview, she said that it is easy to emote, or remain silent, but making people laugh is difficult.

Zoya starred in a romantic SHORT FILM titled Machhar Daani (a mosquito net), in 2014. She won the BEST ACTRESS Award for her exceptional performance. In 2015, she made her Film debut in the role of lead actress in the Telugu Feature Film, A Shyam Gopal Varma Film. Ejaz Khan directed her comedy heist film Life Ki Aisi Ki taisi. It was released in 2017. She then filmed Bollywood’s star filmmaker Ramesh Sippy’s comeback film Shimla Mirchi. In which she played a vibrant and bubbly character called ‘Brownie, a Shimla-based bridal fashion designer. Rajkummar Rao is the lead actress. She has recently completed documentary work for a web series and travel channel that targets the digitally savvy metro youth.
