Sheikh Tahnoun bin Zayed bin Khalifa Al Nahyan was born in 1857. He was the ruler of Abu Dhabi from May 1909 to October 1912, just over three years. He was the second eldest son of Zayed bin Khalifa, who was a famous ruler. Tahnoun’s mother was the daughter of Saeed bin Tahnun Al Nahyan. It is highly possible that her name was Maitha Al Mansouri, the only known wife of his father.
Sheikh Tahnoun succeeded his father Zayed bin Khalifa or Zayed the Great in May 1909. His elder brother did not want to take the mantle of leadership. However, one of his brothers named Hamdan succeeded him after the demise of Tahnoun in October 1912.
