Before that, he was a member of the National Assembly from 2002 until 2007, during which time he also held the position of Minister of State for Religious Affairs in the federal cabinet led by Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz from 2004 until 2007. According to the police, the smoke that was filling his home because of a generator was the cause of his death on June 9, 2022, which occurred in his room at his apartment.
Aamir Liaquat Hussain’s Childhood and Education
Hussain was born on July 5th, 1971 in the city of Karachi to the parents Sheikh Liaquat Hussain, a politician, and Mahmooda Sultana, a columnist.
In an interview, Hussain stated that he received his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree from Liaquat Medical College Jamshoro in 1995. He also stated that he received his Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Islamic Studies degree in 2002 from Trinity College and University, which is now known to be a degree mill (based in Spain but incorporated in Dover, Delaware).
He has also stated that he received a Master of Arts degree in Islamic Studies from Trinity College and University in the year 2002. In 2006, the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan determined that the Bachelor of Arts degree in Islamic Studies that Hussain had acquired from Trinity College and University was not legitimate and should be considered a forgery.
In 2003, The Guardian published an article claiming that a certain university was a fraud where students could get a degree for as little as £150 and have it within 28 days. Earlier in 2005, the University of Karachi determined that his Bachelor of Arts degree was fraudulent.
While Hussain was submitting his nomination documents for the 2002 general elections in Pakistan, he informed the Pakistani electoral commission that he had completed his Bachelor of Arts degree. It was rumored that Hussain had paid for his degrees to be completed at Trinity College and University in order to meet the requirements necessary to run for office. In Pakistan, candidates for seats in the Provincial and National Assemblies are required to have at least a bachelor’s degree in order to run for election. This requirement came into effect in the year 2002.
The claim that Hussain had obtained an MBBS degree from Liaquat Medical College Jamshoro in 1995 was also proven to be a fabrication for the simple reason that if he had actually obtained this degree, he would not have needed any fake bachelor’s, master’s, or doctorate degrees in order to run for office in the general elections of 2002.
Since Hussain claimed to have earned his MBBS in 1995 as well as his BA in Islamic Studies from Trinity College in the same year, it was also pointed out that it is impossible for a single person to study at two distinct schools at the same time.
It was reported in 2012 that Hussain competed for a Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of Karachi, the same institution from where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in 2008. Later on, in 2010, he enrolled in the Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science & Technology, which is where he got his master’s degree in Islamic Studies.
However, according to officials at the university, Hussain never attended a class and did not take any tests during his time there. According to the officials, Hussain’s admission form was initially submitted with the photograph of another individual, but it was later replaced with Hussain’s own photograph after it had been misplaced. It was also alleged that Hussain did not participate in the tests that were given during the semester.
It was reported in 2015 that Hussain had obtained a phony degree from Ashwood University. The main server of Axact reportedly contained a record of his profile, as stated by the Federal Investigation Agency. Hussain said that he paid $1,136 to Ashwood University for a bogus degree and that he bought the degree from them.
Political Career of Aamir Liaquat Hussain
In the Pakistani general election of 2002, Hussain was elected as a member of the National Assembly of Pakistan for the first time on the ticket of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement from the NA-249 (Karachi-XI) constituency. In September 2004, he was appointed Minister of State for Religious Affairs and Zakat and Ushar Division in the Shaukat Aziz cabinet. Hussain was elected on the ticket of the Muttahida Qaumi
During the month of May in 2005, Hussain, in his capacity as the junior minister of Religious Affairs, requested that religious scholars from Pakistan publish a ‘Fatwa’ on suicide bombers.
During his visit to Jamia Binoria in June of 2005, furious young people attacked him while he was there. The police, on the other hand, asserted that there was no instance of Hussain being physically harmed and claimed that the mob had just chanted slogans. Hussain served as the Minister of State for Religious Affairs up until July 2007, when he was asked by his party to quit both from his role as Minister and from his membership as a member of the National Assembly. Since then, Hussain has served as the Minister of State for Religious Affairs. The party expressed displeasure with words made by Hussain against Salman Rushdie, as stated in an official statement. He left his position in politics in the year 2007. Later on in 2008, MQM also kicked him out of the party for disciplinary reasons.
He established the Memhooda Sultana Foundation, which bears his name.
From 2013 through 2015, the Royal Islamic Strategic Studies Centre in Jordan featured Hussain on their list of the 500 most influential Muslims in their annual edition The 500 Most Influential Muslims. Hussain was hauled into custody by Sindh Rangers in August of 2016, following an attack on media houses carried out by MQM members and the arrest of MQM leaders. After Hussain was charged with facilitation of hate speech but police failed to produce Hussain in court hearings in February 2017, an Anti-Terrorism Court in Pakistan instructed the authorities to put Hussain’s name on the Exit Control List. This happened after Hussain was charged with facilitation of hate speech.
